Cynthia Jorrock

Cynthia Jorrock is a Mendheyangal woman born in Delissaville settlement, now called Belyuen. She was raised by her Emmiyangal mother, who taught her how to hunt, fish and find food around the bush. She taught her how to cook food on fire ashes. Her mother spoke to her in Emmi and learnt Mendhe from her father's family. Later on, she went to Kormilda College, and then travelled to school by boat to Darwin High School.
Cynthia married a Kiyuk man and had five children, and now has eight grandchildren.
