Senior Marri Ngarr Language Worker, Wadeye
My name is Bernadine (Lantjin), and I live in Wadeye. My tribe is Rak Dirrangarra, and my dance group is Ḻirrga. I learnt my Marri Ngarr language from my father, and I learnt my mother’s language, Marri Amu, by listening to them.
In Wadeye, we are now speaking Murrinhpatha on Murrinhpatha country, but I want more people from my tribe speaking our Marri Ngarr language.
Working for Batchelor at the Centre for Australian Languages and Linguistics (CALL), we want to continue language work in Wadeye. In the future, we want a space for the Wadeye Aboriginal Languages Centre to continue the work our Elders began.
